Hrithik Roshan Starrer Mohenjo Daro’s Story Copied?
When the shooting of Mohenjo Daro is just about to finish, the film has landed itself in trouble. Nine months before the release of the flick, filmmaker Akashaditya Lama has sent a legal notice to the makers, claiming that the story idea has been stolen from him. Previously, Hrithik Roshan’s future project with father Rakesh has also been slapped with copyright infringement and already they are dealing with legal trouble. Now, another one has landed their way.
Akashaditya Lama, helmer of Cigarette Ki Tarah, who has also penned various TV serials like Kumkum, Kkusum and Hamari Betiyoon Ka Vivah has sent a legal notice to producers UTV Films and Disney India, director Ashutosh Gowariker and lead actor Hrithik Roshan. He has alleged that the makers of the flick “stole the story for their new film from him”. He is now seeking a stay on the film’s production and its release, which is scheduled for January 22.
Lama says that he had written the script of the film in 2003 and had shared it with the Gowariker at that time. “I sent him a handwritten script through Saluja (editor Jaswinder Saluja) which he returned after four days saying that he had just directed a period movie (Lagaan) and didn’t wish to make another one immediately”. He said that he got his script titled ‘Saamrajya’ registered under Copyrights Act in 2007. “After re-confirming from several sources that his Mohenjo Daro is very similar to my script, I sent him another mail on July 18, 2014, reminding him about the script I had sent to him in 2002-2003”, he said. On the other side, the filmmaker’s lawyers have said that the script had been sent back to Lama without reading it.
